COMMUNITY GROUPS

Many companies and organisations that work in and for the community realise the need to improve physical and mental health. Poor diet, low self-esteem and various forms of abuse (mental, physical and substance) are just some of the problems faced by those living in inner city areas.

Taiji and qigong can help those trying to overcome drug and alcohol misuse. By improving our physical health we are less likely to fall into habits that have a negative effect on us (in the same way people diet and go to the gym). One aspect taiji and qigong give is greater will power, as some of postures are hard to hold, even getting up and practising can be a struggle for people in the beginning. As we relax we learn to release tension, especially with the fa-jing movements, this tension can be caused by a number of physical and /or mental imbalances going right back to child hood.

Those who work in community groups often find themselves having to deal with a lot of stress and pressure. This may be due to a heavy work load or contact with some clients. Click here for more information on stress in the work place and how taiji can help. Taiji can be introduced as part of the weekly regime, once a month or just ‘as and when’. If classes are weekly the taiji form can be taught in it’s entirety. If you would prefer more occasional classes these can be geared around the specific needs of the group. These can range from relaxation, energy boosting exercises, acu-pressure for basic ailments or self-defence aspects of taiji.
